The false image of who I am must die so my true Self can emerge in Power. My old self was subject to guilt and shame, craving and emptiness. Now that I recognize who I AM—ever One with Perfect Life, Perfect Love, Perfect Substance1—I am reaching for my potential, fulfilling God’s dream for me. My Wayshower Jesus guides me in the Path of Truth: Abundant and Neverending Life2.

Welcome to OdysseyChurch, the innovative online and multi-site Metropolitan Community Church forming in Jacksonville. We have a bright future with an outreach to match. But we're still 'in formation' as we gather together our base. "We would like to hear from you," says Lead Pastor Grant Lynn Ford. "And we look forward to meeting you soon!"
"You are welcome here, whether you're gay, straight, bisexual, transgendered, no matter your faith tradition or background or whether you even consider yourself a person of faith," says Teaching Pastor Jim Merritt. Jim is also provisional pastor of Trinity MCC, Gainesville, one of our ministry partners (along with First Coast MCC, St. Augustine, and Sunshine Cathedral, Fort Lauderdale).
"Odyssey brings a fresh breeze of joy to northeast Florida," says Pastoral Care Minister Barbara Dubberly. Minister Barbara is a Jacksonville native and long-time participant in its faith community. "It's becoming a home for a variety of people, and a real base for future outreach."
We currently meet Sunday at Six (6:00 pm) in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Jacksonville at 7405 Arlington Expressway. The OdysseyHUB office (open by appointment) can be reached at 904-647-4065 or by writing

How's Your Mettle These Days? (Lent 1) |

Preached by the Right Reverend Grant Lynn Ford, Lead Pastor of OdysseyChurch (Jacksonville), on Sunday, February 21, 2010, after having first been preached when he was Dean of the Sunshine Cathedral (Fort Lauderdale) on Sunday, February 29, 2004
The Foreword
The theme for today’s service is Temptation. So let’s take a look at what some of our LGBT icons have had to say about it.
For instance, Oscar Wilde said, “I can resist everything…except temptation.”
Mae West, who has inspired many a female impersonator, said, “I generally avoid temptation unless I can’t resist it.”
And finally lesbian author of wonderful mysteries involving cat and dog detectives, among many other writings… Rita Mae Brown, said: “Lead me not into temptation; I can find the way myself.”

The first Metropolitan Community Church was founded by the Reverend Troy D. Perry, a Pentecostal preacher who felt called to create a church where gay people would be welcome. So in October of 1968 he held his first service, and 12 people showed up. That message of hope spread across the globe and across cultural, ethnic and lifestyle lines. It was a simple message: "God loves you, whoever you are!" And many who had experienced alienation from the church heard the message and came home. (Click here to read Troy's bio)
